Support Our Marvin Staff at the SDEA Strike on 2/26

A few of our beloved Marvin staff members attended the PTF Meeting on 1/20 to share their concerns that the information put out by the district about the upcoming strike was grossly incomplete. As they are not allowed to share information on any school-run platforms or during school hours, we as a PTF are hoping to help them get the word out and let Marvin families know how they can show their support, if they choose to do so.

Our staff at Marvin shared with us that SDEA educators have voted for a 1-day Unfair Labor Practice strike on February 26th. The district has been violating their contracts related to Special Education Staffing and student to teacher ratios for seven years. The effects not only the Special Education teachers and students at Marvin, but the general teacher and student population as well.

The school district has decided to close school on February 26, and in turn remove our previously scheduled day off on March 9, in order to “ensure students receive the instructional time and services to support their success.” (from email sent on 1/8 from the Office of the Superintendent)

Here’s some more details from the SDEA website:

how to support:

  • Spread the word! Since the staff is very limited in when/where they can talk about this, it’s up to us to help them get the word out.

  • Talk with your student about the importance of standing up for what they deserve, let them know that their teachers are fighting for their rights.

  • Bring your kiddos/friends/families/neighbors to the strike on 2/26. Wear red to show your support for SDEA. More info on time/where to meet up coming soon!
